Christmas Memories & Favorites

I still haven't figured out how to link up to someones blog, mainly because I am too lazy and impatient to figure it out, so 'Copy and Paste' are my friends today :) There are 2 parts to this post...Festive Favorites and then Finish this Sentence. Enjoy!

Festive Favorites!

  • Favorite Christmas song. I love Christmas songs, especially the older versions of them. "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" by Judy Garland is probably one of my favorites.
  • Christmas song you can’t stand. Anything Mariah Carey sings...the girl has got a heck of a voice, but I really don't care to have you drag out a 3 minute song into 15 minutes!
  • Favorite holiday movie. A Christmas Story!
  • Real or artificial tree? I love a real tree, but since I insist on having my tree up and decorated before stores have their leftover Halloween items cleared out, I have an artificial pre-lit tree. I like the fact I can bend the limbs how I need to also.
  • White or colored lights? My pre-lit comes with clear, so I don't really have an option. Colored lights remind me of Christmas as a kid. I used to hate colored lights in my teens because I thought they looked so 80's, but I have a new appreciation for them.
  • All matching ornaments or more random personal ornaments? Most of mine are matching, just because I haven't really had anyone to make me any personal ones...but I would put personal ones on my tree if I had some
  • Favorite ornament. I have 2 favorites from when I was a kid and 1 favorite from recently. The Cookie Monster and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle ornaments are ones we had a kids that I happened to find at my dad's house this past Christmas. The other is one we had made after Grandpa had passed.

  • Angel or star tree-topper? I've always had angels. I like to change my colors every couple of years and like my angel to match too, so unfortunately I have to keep finding new ones.
  • Does Santa wrap presents or leave them unwrapped? He better be wrapping them!! The fun part is tearing off all of the wrapping paper to see what you got!
  • Favorite childhood Christmas memory. Hmmm...I don't really have any that stand out. I loved waking up to snow on Christmas Day, still do!
  • Coffee, hot chocolate, or eggnog? I'm not really a coffee person, but I will down some hot chocolate with mini marshmallows in a heart beat!
  • Christmas morning at home or do you travel? Depends on what everyone else is usually doing. We wake up at home, but sometimes travel to see family and sometimes they come to us.
  • Traditional holiday meal or something unconventional? I like unconventional...I loved the one year we did Christmas at my in-laws, everyone came dressed in their pj's and we had cooked a whole breakfast buffet for dinner.
  • Personalized photo Christmas cards, store bought cards, e-cards, or “ain’t nobody got time for that”? I just buy the plain ol' store bought cards and be done with it. If Jeff and I have kids, we might end up doing personalized for at least a couple of years anyway. There needs to be a cut off age for Christmas cards with your kids pics on them...I don't care to receive one from you from newborn-18 years, especially if I am related to you and see  you and said child all the time!
Finish this Sentence...

1. My favorite Christmas was...the ones where we actually had snow and it felt like Christmas. Unfortunately we don't really get that here in GA, so it really was all of my Christmas' as a child I guess.

2. The worst Christmas I had...was the year we moved into our new house when I lived with dad. He built the house himself and worked so hard to make sure it was done before Christmas. We lived in a little trailer in front of where he built the house, so we spent the days before Christmas moving everything ourselves from the trailer into the new house...basically walking each item over. It was winter time, cold and snowing. So on Christmas day we were all sick as dogs, could barely get out of bed, couldn't hold down any food or drinks and it was just miserable. On the plus side, we were moved in the new house for Christmas Day!

3. That one gift that made me scratch my head and say, "Hmmmmm"...was probably from my Aunt who literally sent us 1 pair of socks. Not those $20/pair kind of fancy socks either...no, they were the $5 for a pack of 6 kind that she opened and individually wrapped for each kid haha.

4. I think the worst gift to give is...household cleaning items, like a vacuum, broom or something. Nothing say "Merry Christmas" like "Here's a Dirt Devil"!

5. One year I...my mom and step dad said they weren't going to put a tree up. This was back when we used to buy real trees. Since I would never in a millions years let this happen, I went and bought one myself and had the place strap it to the top of my car, a mustang...which was a convertible haha

6. At Christmas time I typically...end up buying way more than I tell myself I am going to. I usually get my shopping done a month or 2 before Christmas. All this does is give me a chance to see all the great deals going on during December and I find 50 other things that I think people would love to have...I should wait and do it all the week before, maybe I would actually spend less!

7. Typically, family Christmas is...pretty tame. No Jerry Springer moments just yet...maybe this year!

8. If I could change one thing about the Holiday season...I would have my dad and grandmother down here every year to celebrate it with them.

9. It is so hard to buy for...me! At least, that is what my husband would say. I don't need anything or ever ask for anything. If I want or need something, I usually get it as long as we can afford to. I also manage our bills and check our account every single day, so I can see what's been bought. Usually if Jeff is hell bent on getting me something, I will just have to get cash out and give it to him so I can be surprised.

10. My favorite Christmas tradition is...our ornament exchange, which we actually only started last year. I also like when we have a girls baking day. This year we wound up with rum balls, gingerbread cookies, white trash, chocolate dipped peanut butter crackers, sugar cookies and "doo-doo balls"...I'm assuming those got their name by how they look, but they are some good eating!

11. Santa, baby, bring me a...I can't finish this one. There is only 1 thing that I want and we are in the works on it, but can't fill you all in on it just yet.
