Acts of Kindness #16 - 19 were not planned, nor were they done by me. I have an awesome family that wanted to contribute to the cause in Grandpa's honor and I am honored to have them helping me out!
I called my grandmother on Weds night and she filled me in on her deck staining project she is trying to get done before the snow comes in, told me all about how much wood dad is cutting for everyone and I also found out about her shooting the window out of her camper haha...it apparently involved a squirrel and a ricochet incident lol. Every time I've talked to her she always asks how my list is coming along and what number I am on. She told me she had about 9-10 lap quilts that she had made and that she wanted to donate them in my name. So she has taken care of Acts #16-18...and it's kind of the same act, but it's to 3 different places, and since I know how long she spent making them she deserves to have credit for three and not just one!!
#16 - She told me that she had a doctor's appointment the next day at Crystal Run, the same office my grandfather had his chemo treatments at. She has donated lap quilts in the past to their office for the people in wheelchairs and those getting treatments, because it's cold there. She makes sure they are just the right length so they don't get caught up in the wheels of the chairs. Anyhow, she had 3 of them she wanted to donate in my name when she went up there...Who am I to argue with my grandmother?!
#17 - Grandma took another 3 of the blankets and was donating them to the Ladies Guild that she is a part of up there. I think they donate them to needy families or the homeless, not 100% sure. When I was up there for my sabbatical last winter I was able to have lunch with a group of them...they were HILARIOUS! I hope to be that spunky and fun when I am their age!
#18 - Grandma said she was taking the last 3-4 blankets and giving them to a family friend, Bev Koontz (think that's the right spelling of her last name). Bev takes them to a senior care facility and gives them to the residents, so Grandma wanted to donate those in my name as well. Again...who tells their grandmother "No"?!
The rest of the conversation was spent talking about other ideas of things we could do. She sounded excited to be able to help out and had all kinds of plans of what we were going to do when I go up there for Thanksgiving. So far we have a coat drive, hat/glove drive and a possible food drive set for Thanksgiving week lol...I think she might keep me busy and I hope I can keep up with her!
#19 - This act comes courtesy of my Uncle Rich (my dad's brother). He called me last night to tell me that he made a donation in our name to the Atlanta Community Food Bank. He received something in the mail from them but had originally put it in the trash pile. He said he thought about the #59 Acts of Kindness and then when he saw it was address to "Dick Yeomans" he said it was like a sign. My grandfather's name was Richard, but everyone called him "Dick" all of his life, so the fact that is was sent to my uncle but addressed to "Dick" was a little strange. I hope a lot of people in need are able to benefit from his donation, especially coming up on the holiday season! Thank you Uncle Rich!!!
