Acts of Kindness #20 - 25

First, I would like to share a card I received last night from the Lake Huntington Ladies Aid. in NY. My grandmother had donated 3 lap robes on my behalf that she had crochet. They wrote me a card to thank us for them:

It reads, "Ashley, I took 3 lap robes that Grandma Yeomans made up to SNU(?) Rehab in your name and you can use that towards your "59" good will. Great idea - Bev Coots". The bottom part says "I remember you in Sunday School at L.H. Sending our love" - Jennie Dexter, Grace Cole, Joy Bertock, Vicky Krauss & Bev Coots. Awesome note and I hope the Rehab gets some good use out of them!

I finally got some blank cards and just taped/glued an Act of Kindness message on the front so I could make up some cards to go with some of the acts. Here's a sample and I just write a different note inside depending on what I am doing:

So, now for AOC#20 - A friend I graduated high school with has a little boy with Down Syndrome. She currently lives out of state, so I do my catching up with them via Facebook. I swear to you guys, he is absolutely the cutest little guy EVER. He is constantly smiling and it is totally infectious, I think he could literally light up a room! The last couple of years they have been participating in The Buddy Walk, which is a fundraiser that raises money for the National Down Syndrome Society. I made a donation to him and I hope they had a great time at the walk!!

Act of Kindness #21 - I swear every time I go to the grocery store I pick up a bunch of bananas and every time, I only eat like 2 of the 5-6 and the rest end up too ripe for my liking. Why I buy that many, I have no idea but it is also why I purchase buttermilk all the time. I don't want the bananas to go to waste and not to pat myself on the back or anything, but I make a pretty killer Banana Bread!

Jeff and I had went to the Apple Festival in Ellijay on October 19th. While we were there I picked up some Glazed Apple Bread specifically to bring to our local fire department. When we got home I made a batch of banana bread and then Sunday afternoon we took both of the breads to the Holly Springs Fire Department. The 3 guys there were extremely grateful and I hope they were able to enjoy it while they were watching the NASCAR race they had playing on the TV :)

Act of Kindness #22 - Updates to this one to come later. I have everything for this one, just haven't delivered it yet...

Act of Kindness #23 - I went and bought a bottle of laundry detergent and a box of dryer sheets and delivered them yesterday to a laundry mat that is not far from our house. It was nothing expensive and definitely not the best brands, but I don't use the high dollar stuff either and it works just fine for me! I know some people go there because their machine are broken or it's quicker to do 10 loads at once, but I have also seen some go in that you know are just down on their luck and not having to buy detergent or dryer sheets would help them out in a big way! So I taped a card to the front of the detergent, taped the dryer sheets to the back and headed to the LM. I've never been in this laundry mat before, it's just connected to a gas station we've gone to over the years so I am familiar with it. I was surprised when I walked in yesterday and they actually have attendants that run a little store in there that has all different brands of detergent, dryer sheets, etc. I explained to the girl what I was in there for and got an "awwww, that's so sweet" response from her. The girl was very nice, had me place it on their counter and she assured me that she would make sure that someone got it.

Act of Kindness #24 - After I left the laundry mat yesterday, I stopped by Redbox on my way to the grocery store. I had purchased a gift card with 5 movie rentals, some popcorn, Mike & Ike, Milk Duds and Reese's Pieces...you know, all the "go-to" candies. I figured I was safe with these choices. I put all of it in a little gift bag, taped a card to the front of the bag and taped the bag to the front of the Redbox machine. Hope someone enjoyed their "Movie Night"

Act of Kindness #25 - Every year The Bert Show, a local radio station here in Atlanta, has what they call The Big Thank You. Basically, they collect handwritten letters from the listeners and have them delivered to all of our deployed troops. They want to make sure that each and every single troop has one in his hand by Thanksgiving Day, which means they need over 400,000 letters! It seems like an impossible task and each year it comes down to the wire, but Atlanta has always delivered on making sure they meet their goal!! I wrote one last year for it and ended up receiving a response from the troop that received my letter. This year I sent an email out to my office and one of the daughters of a guy I work with wrote a letter for me to send in for her. It was so sweet! (I would have posted it on here, but it had her address info, etc. on it). I signed up to volunteer at the station to help sort out the letters, but I didn't receive a call from them like the website said I would, so Jeff and I didn't end up going down there. I wrote my letter and mailed them off together, so we will wait and see if we get a response back. I hope all of those men and women have a great Thanksgiving. I couldn't imagine not being at home with family and/or friends for the holidays!!
